Lessons learned and things I’m loving this spring
A reflection on the start of a new season
I’ve seen others doing these fun round-ups lately, and I thought I would try. It seems like a great way to practice gratitude, especially when life feels a little hectic! Here's a few lessons learned and things I'm loving this spring.
That spring has (finally) sprung in Canada
I don't know about all of you, but this sunshine really is good for my soul. I spent some time over the past week or so plotting and scheming, putting some big ideas to paper. The trails are slowly melting, and I really do love our afternoons exploring the Rockies. Views like this always make for the best stories come Sunday night.
No work on weekends
For a few months I lived more overwhelming days than calm ones. Sitting at my desk for 8 hours doesn't feel like it was enough, so 8 would drag into 10 or 12. Friday nights turned to Sunday evenings—I think it's safe to say I have a tendency to expect too much from myself in a single day, week, month.
I'm learning that it's okay to let things slide into tomorrow. Every day doesn't have to be 100 percent hustle. The results are usually better when we start from a place of rest. You'd think I would have figured this out by now, but we're all a work in progress. Allowing room for rest is a challenge, but I know it's something I need to lean into. Sit down and really enjoy this ride instead of peeking around the corner to catch a glimpse of what's coming next and trying to complete 5 million things before I get there.
I’m learning a bit of patience
Trust the process, even if the process is slow. I feel like something big is going to happen soon even though I’m not sure exactly what.
Gushing over our wedding plans
Right now, the big topic is colours. I know there are bigger fish to fry (If you are/know of any photographers near London, Ontario, and want to chat, send me an email!), but colours are the fun part. It’s easy to scroll through Instagram looking for inspo.
Big dreams growing bigger
Today is a desk day—not a river stone skipping, dreaming, playing, wandering wherever the wind blows sort of day. But it’s okay because I’ve worked hard to build a career I love to live. Work-life integration. Desk days are great when I’m excited about my clients and ideas.
Plus, the sun hits my desk just so around 9am each day and every word I write gets me one page closer to my dreams. I don't know about you, but mine involve a lot of words on paper and a lot more time roaming around places that look like this.
Will face masks ever be bumped from the list of Things I’m Loving Lately? Probably not. Especially not while I live in Alberta. These babies sure help on dry, dusty days.
Sipping my morning coffee
Honestly, life passes to fast to not stop and smell the roses. Or—in my case—the fresh coffee every morning. I’ve fallen into this really bad habit where I have to microwave my coffee 5 times before noon and feel groggy because of it. I’m trying to give myself those few moments to enjoy, savour, actually wake up before diving into work, no matter how eager I am to get started.
Writing for fun
I’m falling back into the swing of my pen on paper. I think I’m writing some words that actually have meaning, then tying those words together to give to you.
I can't say this enough, but I am so happy to know that you are reading my blog! I always appreciate feedback if you have any suggestions, ideas, or advice.
As always, I want to hear from you. What are you loving lately? Have you learned anything new? Leave your comments below or send me an email!
